What part of your job are you most grateful for?
For me, this one's easy. I love my job! Well, most of it. There are parts that make me crazy sometimes, but overall? I am most grateful that my whole "job" revolves around books - writing them, reading them, reviewing them and promoting them.
If you follow our review blog at Thrice Read Books, you'll discover I'm a voracious reader. I'm also a two time (going for three here!) winner of National Novel Writing Month. Yup - I've written two full novels so far.
Actually, the count for drafts is at about four, working on numbers Five through Seven, but for now, we'll just leave it at four novels drafted and in some stage of revision.
It's a tough balance between the reading, the blogging, and the writing parts of myself.
I mean, with a hundred awesome-sounding books in a heap on my bedroom floor (their temporary home until the office is finished), how could I NOT want to spend time daily reading?
And the writing? Oh, yeah. The muse is relentless when she gets the bit in her teeth, and getting anything else done is nearly impossible.
The blogging? That's the time-consuming part that I have a love-hate relationship with. I mean, I love the writing part - it's how LONG some blogs take to format and write that just irritates the heck out of me. And sometimes, the brainstorming just feels like trying to dig through a mountain with a plastic spork.
At the end of the day?
At the end of the day, though, I wouldn't trade it. Hubby and I have talked about shutting down the store portion of Thrice Read Books and focusing solely on book reviews, but we keep coming back to that whole, "What do we do with all these books?" question.
I'm finding a better balance between the pieces of my life, but I'm not always perfect, and sometimes my disability claims me. My plans for a productive day get shot all to hell when I wake up with a screaming migraine and a neck so tight I can't move the REST of my body.
And having this career that revolves around books? Yeah, I wouldn't trade it for the world. It allows me some socialization that I couldn't get otherwise. It allows me an escape from the confines of my beautiful house between the pages of a book, whether I'm reading or writing at that moment. And I get to help others along with their journeys.
